Trex Fencing FAQs: Everything You Need to Know

Are you thinking about upgrading your yard? Trex composite fencing is one of the toughest, best-looking privacy options. If you are wondering how it works, what it costs, or if Fence Captain installs it, you are in the right place!

Here are the top frequently asked questions homeowners ask about Trex fences in the Twin Cities area:

1. Does Fence Captain install Trex fencing?

Yes, we do! Fence Captain is excited to help you plan your premium Trex fencing installation. From the first measurement to the final post cap, we handle the entire build so you get a flawless, long-lasting fence.

2. What is Trex fencing made of?

Trex is a high-performance wood-plastic composite. It is made from about (95%) recycled materials, including reclaimed wood chips, sawdust, and recycled plastic film. This blend gives you the classic, beautiful look of wood without the rotting or splintering.

3. Is Trex different than vinyl?

Yes, Trex and vinyl (PVC) are very different materials. Vinyl is a hollow, 100% plastic material that can become brittle in freezing Minnesota winters. Trex is a dense, thick, interlocking composite board that is actually four times thicker than standard vinyl fences. This makes Trex much stronger and able to handle heavy, sustained winds.

4. How long does it take for Trex fence materials to arrive?

Because Trex fencing is a premium, custom-ordered material, the lead time for materials to arrive at our shop is typically 3 to 4 weeks. Once your order lands in Minneapolis, our Fence Captain team can usually complete your installation in just a few days!

5. Can you use the "no-dig" method for Trex posts?

Yes! We use a specialized no-dig method where we drive heavy-duty steel posts 4 feet deep into the ground. We then sheath the Trex posts directly over the steel inner-posts, adding immense structural strength to each post while protecting your yard from heavy digging.

6. Do I have to paint or stain a Trex fence?

No, never! One of the biggest perks of a Trex fence is that it is virtually maintenance-free. It never needs painting, sanding, or staining. All you need to do is spray it off with a garden hose if it gets dusty.

7. How long will a Trex fence last?

Trex fencing is designed to last at least 25 years. Unlike a standard wood fence that needs repairs or replacement in 10 to 15 years, Trex is a "one-and-done" investment.

8. Can I get a free estimate?

Absolutely! We want to help you plan your perfect yard. Contact the Fence Captain team today to schedule your on-site consultation and get a free quote for your Trex fencing project.

If you want to move forward, we'll walk you through it:

  • What color are you interested in (Saddle, Woodland Brown, or Winchester Grey)?

  • How many linear feet of fencing do you need?

We can help you estimate a timeline for your Fence Captain installation.
